Dr. Mahtani Receives Global Award For Philanthropic Contributions

The year 2021 was significant for Dr. Rajan Mahtani, a noted businessman and philanthropist from Zambia. While the year saw several challenges because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, there were several positive aspects. For instance, the economy and society saw improvement. Even though the African nation was impacted in the wake of this covid-19 attack, it was not as severe as some of the more developed and western nations faced. At the same time, the impact gave time for businesses and industries to retrospect and focus on the things that are valuable for the coming future. This was the theme for the 2021 Forbes-FIN (Foreign Investment Network) that was held recently in Africa. While the roundtable conference usually takes place in New York, this year’s event was held virtually to comply with the Covid-19 restrictions. Members participated from their respective locations and the members included international business communities, spiritual leaders, opinion leaders, political leaders, religious leaders, policymakers, international investors as well as media partners. Mark Furlong anchored this event. Mark Furlong is the present founder and publisher of the FAM (Forbes Afrique Media) and Forbes International. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani was invited to this event as an honorary speaker and discussed the significance of healthcare leadership in difficult situations such as this. His ideas were praiseworthy.

Another critical event attached with the Forbes-FIN philanthropy roundtable conference was the Forbes ‘Best of Africa’ awards ceremony. The awards recognize and celebrate leading lights in the field of philanthropy and empowerment. The awards go to those visionaries with significant long-term investment and vision towards philanthropy to achieve long-term empowerment of the African nation. Dr. Rajan Mahtani was recognized by Forbes for his significant contributions towards redefining the banking sector of Zambia. He was awarded the Forbes ‘Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year’ award in 2021. This award was a recognition for Dr. Mahtani’s significant business, economic as well as philanthropic contributions over the years. Dr. Mahtani accepted the award in a humble manner.

Finsbury Investment Claims Unethical Manipulation Of Shares, Reaches Lusaka High Court

Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is a noted businessman in Zambia with numerous successful businesses such as Mahtani Group of Companies, Finsbury Investments and Finance Bank Zambia. Dr. Rajan Mahtani has made a reputation of himself with his authentic and transparent business practices. Recently, Dr. Rajan Mahtani owned Finsbury Investments sued the ESATDB (Eastern & Southern African Trade and Development Bank). The compliant was registered at the Lusaka High Court and it was claimed that Finsbury Investments was wrongly removed as a major shareholder at the Hotellier Limited. This has resulted in significant financial and reputational damage and Finsbury Investments have demanded justice for this unethical conspiracy against the firm.

In the principle registration, Finsbury Investments filed that the ESATDB allowed Ody’S or OWL (Ody’s Works Limited) to alter share capital associated with Hotellier. Ody’s then issued new shares which were contrary to the shared pledged to the Finsbury Investments and officially written under the company’s name. Further statement from the defendant indicated that in the year 2012, the bank in a unilateral manner, issued an official letter which guaranteed that the shares from the company had been properly discharged. However, this letter was released without establishing any application process and without intimating the plaintiff. Therefore, it can be said that the letter was issued with the objective of aiding Ody’s opposition of the compliant raised by Finsbury Investments.

Finsbury Investments further stated that due to the wrongful dilution of the shareholding pattern, the company suffered huge financial and reputational loss. As a result of this unethical takeover of the shareholding of the Radisson Blue Hotel, Finsbury Investments suffered numerous loss not only in current scenario but risks to the future of the company. The dividends lost due to this unethical practice were close to USD 30 million, a loss of which halted significant projects for Finsbury Investments. As such, Finsbury Investments has launched an official complaint against this issue with the expectations of quick judgement.

After Several Years Of Court Battle And False Judgement, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani Owns Pcz Factory

Portland Cement Zambia is a factory that has remained a favourite for Dr. Rajan Mahtani for a long time. This can be easily seen from the fact that Dr. Rajan Mahtani invested significant time, resources and finances for getting back ownership of the cement factory. According to Dr. Rajan Mahtani’s claims, the factory was unethically taken over from him by force and for the past one decade, he fought a brutal battle at several courts. First it was Lusaka High Court where the case was initially registered. Despite having all evidences and testimonials, the judge at the Lusaka High Court failed to provide the right decision for the Portland Cement Case even after dragging the case for more than ten years. The final decision, which was given during the month of May in 2018, was controversial as it announced Ventriglias as only shareholders of the Portland Cement.

Despite this announcement, there was no improvement in the condition of the Portland Cement factory which was under seize for more than a decade and saw a sharp decline in its overall productivity and performance. Dr. Rajan Mahtani’s attachment with the factory led him to re-appeal the case to the higher Court of Appeal. The judge at the higher Court of Appeal was justice Mwinde who gave the final decision on 31^st January 2019. According to this decision, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani was rightly announced as the majority shareholder and legal owner of the factory with 58 percent shares. These findings were supported by evidences. A major evidence supporting the verdict was the payment made by Dr. Mahtani of one billion kwachas to the Zambezi Portland which covered the entire value of share capital owned by Dr. Mahtani. Other evidences like original shareholders agreement also supported the judge in making the final evidence which concluded that Dr. Rajan Mahtani is indeed the actual owner of the factory.

Now the ownership of Zambezi Portland is final, the next step for Dr. Mahtani will be revamping the factory.
