Dr. Mahtani, Forbes Awards Winner, Support Zambian President’s Decision.

The “Best of Africa” awards, which recognise people for their contributions to philanthropy, management, and innovation, are presented by Forbes and the Foreign Investment Network (FIN). In 2021, Dr. Rajan Mahtani was given the “Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year” award for his noteworthy contributions to the transformation of Zambia’s banking industry. A fast award ceremony was held, and YouTube Medium was utilised to broadcast the event throughout the world. In addition to his services to the banking industry, Dr. Rajan Mahtani was respected for his charitable and philanthropic endeavours on behalf of Zambia and its citizens. His establishment of Prison Fellowship Zambia (PFZ) for the welfare of convicts and their families, as well as the Stephen Malama prize and scholarship for the best law graduates in Zambia, are two of his long-standing charitable endeavours. Dr. Rajan Mahtani has promised to fully assist the president of Zambia’s proclamation in this regard. On the unique occasion of Africa Day, President Hakainde revealed his intentions to completely abolish the death penalty. Dr. Rajan Mahtani supported the president of Zambia’s choice and agreed that the death penalty is inhumane, harsh, and humiliating. He also promised that Prison Fellowship Zambia (PFZ), his organisation, will fully support the President’s choice in legal and regulatory matters.

Dr. Rajan Mahtani emphasised that most nations have repealed their death penalty legislation and that African nations are following suit. While previous presidents of Zambia have abstained from executing criminals by granting them mercy privileges, none of them has taken a steadfast position on the issue over the long term. Additionally, Dr. Rajan Mahtani called attention to the terrible conditions of Zambian prisons, where inmates typically lack even the most basic human rights and dignity. Because of this, the Zambian government launched an endeavour to strategically decongest prisons. These prisoners, therefore, have no bearing on the concept of the death penalty. Dr. Mahtani applauded President Hakainde Hichilema for his bold yet significant announcement as a consequence.
