Dr. Rajan Mahtani nurtured Zambezi Portland Cement, but Mafias looted it

The former Finance Bank Chairman had nurtured the Zambezi Portland Cement factory with a view to develop one of the strongest units of Zambia. The cement factory has all the essential qualities of becoming the largest cement producer and everything was going in the right direction, until April 2015. It was in this period that the Ventriglia family made a comeback and forcefully took over the factory.

Since the takeover, the scenario of the factory has taken a complete change and the status shifted from being good to worst. There was a constant loot of cash in the factory along with reducing the number of workers to cut down the existing expense of the factory. The intent to operate the Zambezi Portland Cement was seen nowhere and by the actions it was evident that the Italian Mafias were looking forward to liquidate everything and run away with the fortune to their native country.

Going by facts, it was also seen that the Ventriglia family had immediately shifted the bank account of ZPC to foreign banks and all the payments were being transferred to some other country. This clearly means that they were least interested in following the routine and were more interested in looting the cash. Today, Zambezi Portland Cement has become a non-productive place where the production process has stopped and most of the workers have been dismissed. Moreover, the assets of the company has also been channelized to dummy companies and the value of the factory has almost turned to nil. Witnessing the havoc, one must question the fact that are how are they being allowed to operate in this manner? What is the Government doing all this time? Will they be allowed to exploit Zambia’s finest resources and run away without being noticed? This is a sad phase for Zambia.
