Dr. Rajan Mahtani Big Supporter Of Zambian President’s Announcement

Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, a noted businessman and philanthropist from Zambia, recently announced his official support towards the latest decision from Zambian President. On the eve of Africa Day, the President of Zambia announced that he is planning to completely abolish the inhumane, cruel and degrading practice of death penalty. This announcement has received widespread support. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is the owner of several top companies in Zambia including Mahtani Group and Finsbury Investments. He is also known for his philanthropic contributions and one of these contributions has been Prison Fellowship Zambia. The Prison Fellowship was established more than 30 years ago and since then, it has become a notable Christian Outreach Program focussing on providing the teachings of Jesus Christ to the inmates, ex-inmates and their families in Zambia. The program also works towards ensuring transparent criminal justice for the prisoners as well as ensuring that they are not devoid of fundamental human rights and fundamental human dignity. Prison Fellowship Zambia has extended its full support towards this decision and has stated that there is a significant difference between making such bold announcements and making them a reality. As such, Prison Fellowship will help the Zambian Government in this direction.

Dr. Mahtani further stated that the consensus towards abolishing death penalty is growing across the globe and can be seen across Zambia too. The punishment of death penalty does not solve the issue of growing crimes across the nation. Also, the condition of the prisoners across Zambian prisons is extremely degrading and dangerous. Several initiatives between the Zambian Government, Pension Department and correctional facilities have been undergoing regarding freeing up the prisons and releasing of prisoners based on their transformation. As such, putting death penalty row on prisoners does not provide any solution. Dr. Rajan Mahtani has also applauded the bold yet quite needed announcement from the Zambian President stating that only a compassionate person will be able to make such announcements.
